Help Counteract Industry Front Group Lobbying Against LNG Protection Act
author: Relay e-mail:e-mail: oliviariver@gmail.com
This Friday, 3-6-09, a front group for the LNG industry, Energy Action NW, will be holding an open house and lobby day at the capitol building. The purpose of their presence there is to convince legislators to oppose the LNG Public Protection Act.
Energy Action NW is a group that was founded specifically to combat our effective organizing against LNG and they claim to be a "grassroots" organization made up of businesses who are eager to import high-carbon, high-priced LNG into the Pacific Northwest. They are the group responsible for labeling the anti-LNG coalition as "radical environmental extremists" when in fact we are a diverse coalition made-up largely of fishermen, farmers, foresters and folks who are concerned about the effects of climate change and the threat posed by LNG to the economy and ecology of our region.

In an effort to deal with the massive lobby push these multi-million dollar companies are making, we need to have a Call-in Day to the Capitol!

This Friday, March 6th please take the time to contact your House Representative and State Senator to urge their support for House Bill 2015 (The LNG Public Protection Act)! This is a great opportunity for you to let your legislator know that you support this legislation and that you are being misrepresented by Energy Action NW.

When you send your message of support for this bill please remember to note that HB 2015 is NOT a ban on LNG, it simply strengthens the state's authority in the permitting process. And remember -- there is nothing more powerful than telling your personal story. If you are a landowner threatened by Eminent Domain for an LNG-related pipeline, or you are a resident concerned about Mt. Hood National Forest, or you are a proponent of Energy Independence, share your story with your legislator!

Join us this Friday for a Call-in Day to support House Bill 2015 -- The LNG Public Protection Act! Our legislators need to hear from their constituents to balance the message coming from this group of pro-LNG lobbyists! The more calls and emails we get in on Friday, the harded it will be for our legislators to believe the lies being told by Energy Action NW.

Thank you all for your continued interest in the fight against LNG in Oregon and for participating in this important day of action!

Think it is important that we track how many times this woman tells people that something IS NOT AGAINST or is NOT a ban on LNG. Remember, she's the same one that told us that 4-131 had NOTHING to do with LNG, and Even People who were for LNG didn't want pipelines in Parks. Her organization, Columbia Riverkeepers, then wrote letters to FERC and numerous state departments a week after the vote telling them that because 4-131 was defeated the WILL OF THE PEOPLE demanded that NO LNG be allowed in Clatsop County.

Olivia Schmidt continually now refers to this referendum as "the will of the people in Clatsop County" proving that a "majority" are against LNG. Olivia Schmidt continually lies, and we must continually remind people that she lies.

CONTINUALLY people MUST BE REMINDED that ONLY 39% of eligible voters cast a ballot against conditionally allowing pipelines in OPR zoned land. Over 42% didn't vote in the special election AT ALL! A SILENT MAJORITY of Clatsop County citizens have never voiced an opinion on LNG! Only 200 UNIQUE local residents (meaning counting each person ONCE) have given testimony on LNG issue.

The Clatsop County Board of County Commissioners has NEVER voted on the LNG issue! Never! All of its votes has been on land use issues, issues which if they hadn't voted according to legal standing they would have been overturned by LUBA.

LUBA DENIED ALL of Columbia Riverkeepers' complaints! Columbia Riverkeepers has LOST on all COUNTS! They asked LUBA to REVERSE Clatsop County's land use decision on 23 points. LUBA refused on ALL 23 points! LUBA remanded (asked for clarification) on two points. YET, Columbia Riverkeepers LIED to the public and to their donors, telling them they had WON and that LUBA had REVERSED Clatsop County's land use decision.

Most news organizations repeated Columbia Riverkeepers' press release, verbatim! Very few wrote the true data. None challenged Columbia Riverkeepers' blatant LIES! Sad, where have all the true investigative journalists gone? LONG time passing! That is for sure.

Until they come back what can YOU do as a reader? Basically, since Columbia Riverkeepers have been PROVEN liars, quit believing ANYTHING they tell you. If you hear they are the source of ANY information, immediately discount it. Anyone related to their organization are probably liars. The only way they will learn is to reap the consequences of their behavior.
