From The Columbia Press - Letters To The Editor
Ashamed of the Commission!
I served on the City of Warrenton City Commission for eight years and was willing to go for another four years except this "Good Old Boy System" found its way back into the drivers seat.
I have never been able to understand why the 300+ citizens voted to put our "Foced into early retirement" City Manager on the City Commission. I guess in Warrenton, if you lay low for a year or so, it is as if you never did anything wrong and you can be a City Commissioner and eventually, "THE MAYOR".
Now we have five City Commissioners, four of which, I know, are the best of friends. In fact, you could call this City Commission the most "Incestuous" group of commissioners I have ever seen.
Some of them are in "Property Dealings" with each other. Others perform work for the other. Their personal lives are socially entertwined. Some of them have vacationed together. Their wives are the best of friends (I know some of these women and believe they are very good-hearted people).
What we have here is a "Situation".
Do you for one minute think that they do not discuss things outside of the City Commission while in their personal social times together?
How do you think they came to such a quick decision about eliminating the Engineering Department? They knew they were going to do this before they got there and they did it in the most cowardly, sneaky, underhanded way possible. In fact, it appears that the City Manager (Madere) was even surprised by the event.
I was aware that there has been a negative relationship with Alan Johannson and the current Mayor and some of his business associates brewing for years. This was a "Hit Job" made to look like a responsible handling of city funds.
Why do you think Scott Derrickson Left? He knew working with this bunch would be impossible since he knew all the "Low Down" on what the past city management did. The County is so lucky to have him. They may not agree with Scott all the timebut, at least they know who they are dealing with and that he has integrity.
Mr. Madere, I am sure, knows his place with these guys and when he retires guees who gets to pick the new City Manager?-hhhmmm...
Wake up Warrenton Folks!
The previous City Commission spent years repairing and re-stabilizing the City of Warrenton. We established trust with the citizens and with other government agencies. We established a healthy plan for future growth. We had improved fiscal responsibility and there was an increase in the level of professionalism. We cleaned up huge and costly messes created by the previous city management BUT, MOST OF ALL DURING THAT TIME the Commission was no longer at the will of the City Manager of the last 20+ years. We finally were empowered to make decisions and take ownership of the city government, all this under Scott Derrickson.
Unfortunately we raised water rates for a water filtration plant that was forced on us by the Federal Government and the new candidates knew that you did not like that, so they got the town all worked up over the water rates. promised everyone to make things cheaper and better and then you flogged those of us who were responsible for picking your pockets to pay for that darned water filtration plant, tarred and feathered us and ran us out of town in exchange for the crew you have now but, nothing changed, prices are the same-hhhmmm...
AND THEN, you gave the "Good Old Boys" back the keys to the kingdom so they and their buddies can direct the city in the way which most lines their pockets.
I am ashamed at the leadership of Warrenton but, let's not give them all the credit. Some of you voters in Warrenton who knew that these guys had personal agendas can pat yourselves on the back for "Sticking It" to the rest of us in Warrenton. You voted them in and now we all have to live with the dishonesty and "Backdoor Politics" and "Good Old Boy" dealings.
The Warrenton City Commission just "Ambushed" a man by terminating him without warning and all just before Christmas. That makes our Mayor and his cronies worse than any "Scrooge" or "Grinch" that I know of. How unprofessional they are.
It's time people stood up for what is right and stood against wrongdoing. There is simply too much "Looking the other way" going on.
They may appear to be nice guys to everyone they know but, in in their business and politics, they are "Cutthroat" and "Unethical".
"A pinch of sugar won't make prune juice taste any better."
THIS WAS WRONG ALL THE WAY AROUND. IT WAS SHAMEFUL AND THIS CITY COMMISSION OWES US ALL AN APOLOGY FOR THE WAY IN WHICH THEY HAVE AND CONTINUE TO, CONDUCT THEMSELVES.

More shocking is that the Columbia Press is still in business. Who Knew? I'm sure this forum has more readers, so at least now the word will get out.

IMHO. it takes more than one person to "do" something with this information.
Also, when you are "yelling" at a population for voting in "bad" people you should be sure a majority of that population is in agreement that the people voted in are "bad" and even then you run the risk of putting people on the defensive.

Ah Yes! The Columbia Press.
Warrenton's most effective tool.
What better way to say that you have met the letter of the law by doing the required legal notices in the local paper but still be relatively secure in knowing that the citizens are still kept out of Commission business unless by shear accident, somebody just happened to pick up a copy.
This was going to be the same with Lisa Lamping's letter except an alert Warrentonian just happened to catch the piece in that little "rag".

Get over yourself. You lost. Glad you are involved, but do not waste our time with your attitude, we need facts. The people have spoken. Sick of your BS.

Funny isn't it...how "some" people make "claims" that may or may not be backed up by little things called "facts".
It's easy to be a pot-stirrer from the sidelines.
Why then, did this "commissioner Lamping" wait until she was off of the commission to "sound the warning".
Sounds like sour grapes to me.
Get over it.
